Crystal Castillo

photographer // writer // poet

Crystal Castillo specializes in photography and poetry, often combining mediums to produce compelling works that provide a glimpse into the mind of the artist. In her debut show, Sanctuary, Castillo provides an outsider’s perspective to the often lonely routes in the Southwest United States. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the world was still and silent, a collective pause was taken where people were allowed to reflect on time itself. The images from this collection capture this spirit of reflection and stillness felt by us all during an uncertain time. Castillo uses a range of media, including typographical elements, film, and digital photography.

the collection

The collective portfolio from Phoenix based artist Crystal Castillo brings to light the dusty and often overlooked backroads of the Southwestern United States. This collection of photographs and poetry reveals untold truths of the human spirit. Crystal uses a combination of Nikon F, Canon Super 8, Yachica Mat 124G, and Nikon d5300 to create her photographs. As you follow your way through the collection of mostly black and white images, red neons and deep green hues break up the monochromatic pallet.
